Permanent make-up, or micro-pigmentation, is a procedure that carefully implants colored pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. A pen like machine is used to implant pigment into the skin.
Most people do experience some degree of redness or swelling post procedure, but are able to resume their normal activities immediately afterward. If cared for properly, permanent make-up can last a lifetime, however some people will experience a gradual fading over time and may require a touch-up in order to maintain the color and vibrancy.
Most everyone can benefit from this procedure. Permanent make-up is perfect for the active person who has little time to apply make-up, for the athlete who wants to look great before, during and after workouts, and especially for the person who wants to look their best all of the time. PMU is the solution for those allergic to conventional cosmetics, or have poor eyesight and conditions such as tremors or alopecia. Everyone from young to old, to men and women can enjoy the benefits of permanent make-up. PMU is the answer for today's busy lifestyle.
This may vary according to each individual's pain threshold, however, topical anesthetics are used to numb the area and minimize discomfort.
Allergic reactions to permanent cosmetic procedures are extremely rare. The cosmetic pigments are formulated for the face, and disposable sterile needles and surgical gloves are used for each procedure. However, micro-pigmentation is a skin invasive procedure, so it is extremely important to consult an experienced professional technician.
Allowing time for anesthetics to take effect, the average time for the initial visit is about 1-2 hours.
Three to six weeks after the initial application, a second procedure is vital to perfect color and shape. This visit does not require as much time as the initial procedure.
The cost of the procedure should not be the most important issue when consulting a potential technician. Since what you are contemplating will be a permanent application, the most important factors to consider are the training, skill, expertise and artistic ability of the artist!
I have people come to me regularly who have had their permanent make-up applied by someone who did not apply it properly. In many cases, there is nothing that can be done to correct the problem, other than referring them to a physician to have it lasered off. Laser treatments are very expensive! It is much wiser to pay a little more for the initial procedure, and have the confidence knowing that your permanent make-up is applied by an accomplished permanent make-up artist.

Traditional make-up can be applied directly over the Permanent make-up to enhance or create a more dramatic look. Color neutralizers can also be added to original color implant to adjust or enhance color.
A variety of factors influence the longevity of Permanent Cosmetics. Ultra-violet exposure from sun or tanning booths, various drugs and excessively dry skin are all factors that may affect permanent cosmetics. Alpha-hydroxy, Retin-A, and glycolic acid must be kept away from treated areas. These substances slough away top layers of the skin and eventually the layer of skin that the pigment has been implanted into. Sunblock on eyebrows, sunglasses for eyeliner, and SPF on lips will greatly prolong the effective life of these procedures.
Colors will appear darker immediately following the procedure and for the first few days, but then lighten to a completely natural look during the following few weeks. Pigment colors can be, either soft and natural looking, or vibrant and dramatic. Permanent make-up should not be considered a total make-up replacement. As we age and styles change, it is best to subtly enhance your features so that you may look your best, but still allowing you to apply regular cosmetics over your permanent make-up if a more dramatic look is desired. If you require a lip procedure and you are prone to fever blisters, please consult your GP for prescribed oral medication to prevent a breakout.
