Collagen Stimulation
- Wrinkles and photo-aged skin are characterised by decreased amounts and alterations of the dermal collagen
- New collagen is formed by the fibroblast cells of the dermis in response to injury or surgical intervention
- By selectively targeting the dermis with light energy, without causing damage, the body can be ‘tricked’ into producing new collagen in response to the perceived injury
ACNE Management
- Acne is a chronic inflammatory condition of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland
- Over-production of sebum and dead hair cells clog the hair follicle
- Propionibacterium Acnes (P.Acnes) bacteria contaminate the skin cell and grow
- Commonest site is the face followed by shoulders, back, chest, arms, neck, buttocks and legs
- About 70% of infected people go into spontaneous remission after 4 to 5 years.
- About 30% continue into adult life.
- However, acne scarring can occur during this time.
- Aim of treatment is to help manage lesions and reduce incidence of scarring.
- Research has shown that pulsed yellow light helps destroy bacteria and initiate the healing response in the skin
